ST.ITCH | TESTSITE

st.Itch is an interactive four channel art installation by artist Afrah Shafiq that has been exhibited widely. It was installed at the Kochi Muziris Biennale, 2018, as well as at multiple venues around the world. This publication was designed for a showing in Austin, Texas by Fluent~Collaborative and testsite, curated by contemporary art collector Cynthia Toles.

st.itch imagines the inner lives of women sewing in Victorian England by digitally pairing historical depictions of them engaged in the activity with their cross-stitched fabric. This project was the result of research into archival images of these women, where a lot of the women’s unpublished writings, like diary entries, journals and letters were used.
